United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
MISSION
UNIDO is a specialized agency of the United Nations with a unique mandate to promote, dynamize and accelerate industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition.
SCOPE
UNIDO’s mandate is reflected in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9: “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”. Industrialization supports the achievement of the SDG’s socio-economic and environmental objectives through the creation of jobs, improvements in working conditions, innovation and the development of new and greener production technologies, accelerating the achievement of the 17 SDGs. Our motto is Progress by innovation: UNIDO is a platform for knowledge and technology transfer, as well as the mobilization of innovations and investments.
TASKS
UNIDO’s work is concentrated on three priority areas:
- ending hunger by cutting post-harvest losses and developing agribusiness;
- limiting climate breakdown by using renewable energy and energy efficiency to reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions; and
- supporting sustainable supply chains so that developing country producers get a fair deal and scarce resources are preserved.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
