Energy Community EnC Artur Lorkowski, Director |
Although our approaches and focus differ, we share the global concerns about energy security and access. In my opinion, this is just a start. A vast synergy potential prevails among the VEC members. |

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General |
Secure and clean energy supplies underpin socioeconomic development. They are vital to power modern industry and agriculture and maintain the services on which we all depend, from health and education to telecommunications. International cooperation among major stakeholders is critical to ensuring sustainable energy supply, and the VEC is a valuable platform for bringing key players together. Many countries see nuclear power as a clean source of energy that can help to mitigate climate change, and the IAEA assists them in using nuclear power safely, securely and profitably while working with complementary organizations to advance sustainable energy development more broadly. |
International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) Dr. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Director General |
Given the international nature and expertise of its constituents, the VEC provides a significant opportunity to place Vienna firmly on the world map as a powerhouse of energy research, knowledge diffusion, and innovative policy leadership. As an independent, international scientific research institute IIASA is well placed to inform the VEC on energy matters. |
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammad S. Barkindo, Secretary General |
OPEC welcomes the informal platform of the Vienna Energy Club as a means for local-based international organizations to exchange information and ideas on some of the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the energy industry. |
OPEC Fund for International Development Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, Director General |
Institution engaged with countries around the world, the OPEC Fund is acutely aware of the primary role of energy in sustainable development. The Alleviation of Energy Poverty, the proposed 9th MDG is a top priority for the OPEC Fund. The VEC provides a vital platform for the OPEC Fund and energy related institutions to promote the dialogue and cooperation required for global consensus on energy as a key to development. |
Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
Helga Maria Schmid, Secretary General
The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. When it comes to energy security we go beyond the security of supply, looking at the security of demand and security of transit, as well as energy efficiency. Cooperation and closer interaction between organizations dealing with energy security is essential to better understand each other‘s comparative advantages and improve efficiency and complementarity of our actions. The Vienna Energy Club offers an important forum for international organizations that work on energy issues to informally learn about each others’ activities, projects and programmes and exchange views. |
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP)
Eva Kelly, CEO
As a market catalyst for clean energy systems, REEEP sees the Vienna Energy Club as an important point of interface amongst all of the Vienna-based energy-related organisations, ensuring that a wide variety of perspectives are brought to the table. The VEC also underlines Austria's importance as both an energy hub and an important setting for multilateral discussions. |
Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)
Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All & Co-Chair of UN-Energy
Energy enables. From job creation to economic development, from security concerns to the full empowerment of women, energy lies at the heart of all countries’ core interests. In September 2011, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the Sustainable Energy for All initiative and shared his vision for how governments, business and civil society, working in partnership, can make sustainable energy for all a reality by 2030. |
United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Gerd Müller, Director General |
The required transformation of the global energy systems that address key issues such as access to energy, reduction in energy intensity and climate security is a global challenge that requires collective solutions. UNIDO champions to forge strategic partnerships through fora such as the VEC to address global challenges. |
